    Understand how to manage money by preparing a personal spending plan and identifying ways to decrease spending and increase income.

    Participants will learn:
    -About the difference between credit reports and scores
    -How lenders value your scores
    -How to read credit reports

    One hundred years ago a group of caring community members came together to help those who were most in need. This particular group called themselves the Social Services League, and established their tradition of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors."  

    In 1959, the organization's name was changed to Family Services Agency. To meet the needs of the ever-changing Montgomery County population, Family Services has expanded and now houses 14 different programs! Today, Family Services is still committed to making a long-lasting impact on families.Through its innovative early childhood, educational, and behavioral health programs, Family Services makes a difference in the community.

    Individuals

    • Free tax preparation, including EITC and the Child Tax Credit, for those earning $54,000 or less

    • Get your FAFSA completed

    • Sign up for low cost banking services through Bank On Gaithersburg

    • Learn about “SNAP” (Food Supplement Program) and Food Resources

    • On-site Certified Housing Counselors will provide rental housing counseling and foreclosure prevention


    What to Bring?

    The IRS Does Not Allow VITA to prepare taxes without required documentation.

    • Government issued ID (Valid Driver’s License, Passport, Age of Majority Card)

    • Original Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Notice (ITIN) for each

    member of your family and last year’s tax return (if available).

    • Birth dates for every person claimed on your tax return.

    • All W2 forms, forms 1098, 1099, and other documents regarding income.

    • All Forms 1095, Health Insurance Statements, or Health Insurance Certificate, if received.

    • If filing jointly, your spouse must be present. If filing separately, you must provide your spouse’s social security number and name exactly as it appears on the social security card.

    • Statement of annual child care expenses prepared by the provider, with their tax ID (Social Security or EIN number).

    • For Direct Deposit: proof of a bank account, including routing numbers. Bank On representatives can assist if you don’t have an account.
